Blog "Death by Ministry"

by Scott Mehl
Apparently, the links to Driscol's series on "Death by Ministry" has not inspired conversation, but killed it instead. Maybe we're all just too busy...

If you want to watch the rest of them, you can find them here.

But, for the sake of a "jump-start," Josh, didn't you have an article for discussion?

Good hang time last week, too, thanks for that all around.

Count the number of "things that cause stress" you have...we could probably add a few to the list...like working with Colmery...

Death by Ministry (3 of 11)

by Scott Mehl
Here is the third installment.

Top quote goes to Spurgeon: "Fits of depression come over the most of us, usually cheerful as we may be, we must, at intervals, be cast down. The strong are not always vigorous, the wise not always ready, the brave not always courageous, and the joyous not always happy."

Death by Ministry (2 of 11)

by Scott Mehl
Since part one elicited such an overwhelming response (got your email Josh...thanks), let's move on to part 2.

I just don't want any of us to have to prematurely preach one another's funeral. Give it a 10 minute watch, and let me know what you think.

Death by Ministry (1 of 11)

by Scott Mehl
Well, I hope everyone's beginning to enjoy their summers. Walker's ignoring my emails, so I'm assuming he's on a beach in Mexico somewhere "recuperating" from the school year.

So, I've got an idea for the next month or so of St. Anne's discussion...Driscoll is posting an eleven part vodcast series on his blog entitled "Death by Ministry." While my initial reaction to the whole "be careful...lots of pastors burn out" warning is usually: "That's just for guys who don't really love Jesus, and I love Jesus!" I'm starting to realize that that statement really is as arrogant and ignorant as it sounds. I don't feel any imminent danger of burning out at the moment, but I also know that as young pastors we are getting into habits now that will either allow us to have a long and fruitful ministry or destroy us in about 20 years.

My proposal: Let's take the 10 minutes or so minutes and watch each of these as they are released and discuss the implications and our own reactions here...what do you think?

You can watch Death by Ministry (1 of 11) here.

more evidence

by spencer maccuish

Not that anyone would question or even begin to disagree with anything Andy observed about the signs in Israel...here is one more to add support.

not really sure what this word is...but it communicates a whole lot.

The Gospel Coalition

by Joshua Walker
Have you guys been paying attention to "The Gospel Coalition"? I didn't know anything about it until they held their conference last week. It sounds like some great stuff. Their web site isn't up with all the documents yet, but Justin Taylor and Justin Buzzard both blogged pretty extensively about it. Their "foundational document" contains some great stuff.
